As long as you live in India, you will never be too far from a movie theatre showing Hindi Movies (or Bollywood movies as they are sometimes called). You have the freedom to choose a movie out of all the new bollywood releases and you have the freedom to choose a cinema hall that you like best. You then happily settle down in comfy cushioned seats in the air conditioned hall munching popcorn, and scream away to glory when your favourite star makes his first appearance in the movie. The soft hearted amongst you also manage a couple of sobs when the twin brothers bichadofy in kumbh ka mela. Since most hindi movies have happy endings, your time is well spent, and you go back home happier. You dont really need a site like www.moovyshoovy.com as long as you keep your feet planted in India.

But lets assume you are an Indian living out of India.  It’d be quite a rare sight to see a hoarding which says “now showing – Bollywood movie – Kumbh ka Mela”, outside any cinema hall – something which you are so used to back  home !  The point that am getting to is that – these beloved  Indian friends of ours are deprived of one of the 4 basic necessities of Indian life – Roti, Kapda, Makaan and Bollywood Movies.

And this is where websites like MoovyShoovy comes in. No, no, no,  I dint mean that moovyshoovy.com distributes roti kapda and makaan to Indians abroad, but it surely takes care of the fourth basic necessity for any Indian – Bollywood movies. With hundreds and hundreds of bollywood hindi movies available online, it makes you feel so much at home ! At www.moovyshoovy.com you can choose to watch movies from a huge collection of online hindi movies. All the movies are very well indexed, for example, you can browse old hindi movies as well as  new hindi movies,  and you can also sort movies by the year of release, and in alphabetical order. And in addition to these, if you are a huge fan of Arshad Warsi or Salman Khan like me, then you can easily sort out  all Arshad Warsi movies, or Salman Khan movies and watch them online  – same goes for any other hindi bollywood actor. I really like the actor section where you can find a list of all the Bollywood hindi movie stars, and clicking on any of them will display a list of all the hindi movies starring that actor. And for those who donot like to miss any movie by their favourite director, there is a quick way of sorting out all the movies by director name. Same goes for Music director as well !

The search feature at moovyshoovy.com is quite nice, for example suppose you are searching for the once-angry-young-man Amitabh Bachchan Movies, and by mistake you type “Amibath”, the search engine at moovyshoovy.com will prompt you if you did mean to search for Amitabh Bachchan Movies or something else. Something similar to what google does, but specially designed for apna Indian film industry ! And while on Amitabh, did you know that in many of the old Amitabh movies, it was very common for his character in the film to be called “Vijay” – So, I wouldn’t be surprised if you searched for the actor Vijay in hindi movies, and it asks you “Did you mean Amitabh Bachchan ?” .. hahaha

Understanding Movies Through the Lenses of Genre, Story, Morality, and Art

The Problem

A good movie review is so much more than the number of stars after the movie title. I know that’s what most people want to see, but think about it. A movie producer has just invested $60M and the director has given two years of his life. Do you really think they want to see that reduced to a casual two second glance at the number of stars following the title? I know the internet has turned us all into ADD consumers that have lost the ability to process through written information thoughtfully, but really! Think about the art forms and how they blended together to bring the film to life. Consider this before passing your “two star” judgment. In this article I will attempt to describe four artistic lenses that craft a movie so that when you see your next blockbuster epic or quiet romantic comedy, you will have a greater appreciation for what the film makers have attempted to do.

Genre

This is the start button for every movie. The pitch to the studio money people begins, “It’s a __________ about …” The blank is the genre. Romantic comedy, drama, horror, action/adventure, buddy movie, coming of age movie, etc. Genre is the first lens we look through in unpacking a movie. It defines how the story will unfold, the pace of the editing, the musical theme as well as the incidental music, even the costumes and lighting will be determined by the genre. Each genre has its own set of rules, but genres also are reinvented and redefined successfully by Hollywood’s more creative movie makers. Barry Levinson’s “Rain Man” broke several genre rules but successfully told a very dramatic and engaging story about two brothers setting out on a cross country journey of discovery. Being able to identify the elements of genre in the movie will clarify why the movie is what it is.

Story

The next lens is story. When story is combined with genre the filmmaker’s intent and purpose in making the film becomes clear. Look carefully at each character as they are introduced and trace their arc. When and where do the arcs cross? When do they run parallel? The length of the arc indicates the character’s importance. Is the character introduced to set something up later. When the movie is over, remember the main characters’ introduction and story arc. Was it resolved or left open.

Morality

Every movie has a moral message. It is impossible to tell a story and not have a moral. The message of the film maker will be seen through the moral lens and remembered as we leave the theater. Moral messages include: Good always wins over evil. Nice guys finish last. The bad things you do in secret will be publicly exposed. The morality of the movie can be positive or negative. Horror movies usually end with everyone getting killed except for that final one who either defeats evil or escapes to fight evil another day.

Art

The artistic lens will reveal a movie’s longevity. If care was taken to creatively tell a story by expanding its genre, and revealing well formed characters with developed arcs, the film will become a classic. Every year the movie “Somewhere In Time” is celebrated on Mackinac Island, Michigan at the Grand Hotel. When the movie was first released in 1980, the box office was disappointing. But, when it began showing on cable TV, the artistic beauty of the well told romantic story captivated thousands of viewers. In 1990 the International Network of Somewhere In Time Enthusiasts was formed to plan the Mackinac Island event that became an annual celebration. In 2010 they will celebrate their 20th anniversary when the movie turns 30 years old. Its moral theme of timeless love still causes the movie’s fans to celebrate.

All That To Say…

…While we often are fans of particular movie stars, when you decide to go to a movie, look to see who’s directing the film. The film is their vision and the actors are only playing out the parts.Three movies later, they’ve usually established a moral history that will be repeated in future movies.

Revisit your movie experience through these lenses. Don’t be quick to pass judgment based on your personal opinion. The movie is over and the credits are rolling. Think about everyone who worked on the movie and how they contributed to the genre, story, morality, and art of the film. Do you think the director was able to accomplish what he and the producers set out to do? Read through the films reviews. Do you agree or disagree? As you look through these lenses, your experience at the movies will become far richer.

About Black Movies

Black Culture through Black Movies, the early days in Hollywood did not allow black actors play starring roles in Black films. Today, black directors, actors and writers frustrated with getting major studios to promote and green light black movies The very first black movies were mostly race films, produced in the beginning parts of the twentieth century. These films were made up of mainly black cast and were produced with the black audience in mind; with the objective being to create a more accurate portrayal of black people than that seen in early white films. The most prominent producer of the black film was Oscar Micheaux.

Oscar formed his own film production company and between 1919 and 1948 independently released over forty black movies. Oscar’s first black film was the 1919 silent film “The Homesteader,” this was the first feature-length production made for and created with a black cast and crew. Oscar’s next film “Within Our Gates,” directly addressed racism and depicted lynching. Both starred well known black actress Evelyn Peer.

In 1929, MGM became the first major studio to release an all black film, with the release of “Hallelujah!” The MGM produced musical was notable for its attempt to create a more positive portrayal of black life, than contemporary while films of the time. There were two notable black musicals films released in 1943 each featuring actress Lena Horne, “Stormy Weather” and “Cabin in the Sky”.”

Black movies allowed black actors and musicians a chance to play starring roles instead of being relegated to supporting roles as domestic characters in mainstream films. In Hollywood’s’ early days, it was not uncommon for white actors to appear in black face and carry off stereotyped portrayals of blacks. Actress Hattie McDaniel became the first black person to win a best supporting Oscar, for playing a housemaid in the 1939 production of “Gone with the Wind.”

The Civil Rights struggle of the 50s and 60s paved the way for a change in black movies, by addressing racial tensions and depicting accurate black experiences. White actors and Black actors now star together in movies thus reaching a larger audience. Leading black actor Sidney Poitier won a best acting Oscar for the 1963 film, “Lilies of the Field.” Dorothy Dandridge was the first black woman to receive a best actress Oscar nomination for her role in the all black musical, “Carmen Jones.”

The 1970s brought Blaxploitation black films such as “Shaft” starring Richard Roundtree and “Foxy Brown” starring Pam Grier to the big screen. Black comedians have benefited significantly from the increased exposure of black movies. In 1976, one of the top black actors – Richard Pryor stared in various successful movie projects including “Car Wash”.

In more recent times, starting from about the 1980s and 1990s, black actors were now able to become major movie stars and earn a lot more money. Eddie Murphy was the main star in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise while Danny Glover co-starred in the Lethal Weapon series of movies. Denzel Washington was the leading black actor of the day and won a best supporting actor Oscar for starring in the black film Glory, in 1989. Influential directors: Spike Lee, Mario Van Peebles and John Singleton all left their mark. Black films covering science fiction, fantasy, romance, hip hop culture and other genres gave black actors more freedom than ever before.

Oscar wins by Halle Berry and Jamie Foxx further show appreciation for black movies and black actors/actresses in the 21st century. Black film makers such as Tyler Perry continue the tradition of the black film with primarily black cast. However, major films feature an ethnically diverse casts offers the most opportunity for black actors and a chance to play other roles that are not the typical stereotype roles.

After facing numerous rejections from the major movie studios, Black directors, writers, producers and actors are creating their own production companies to promote and green light their own black movies, they are building Web sites, and turning to social networking and black film festivals as a way to network and gain exposure for black films.

The African Side website showcases African movies rarely ever seen. Visit to see interesting trailers of some more recent black movies to learn more about black films today.

Bollywood Flop Movies of 2008

Bollywood gave some of the disappointing worst movies this year, 2008. The dusky beauty Priyanka Chopra is responsible in giving four of the biggest flops of 2008. Thank God, Fashion proved to be a saving grace.
Here is the list of Bollywood flop movies 2008:

1. Tashan: Director Sanjay Gadhvi showed that Dhoom series was a fluke as he completely made mincemeat of the movie Tashan. The movie was one big size zero, nothing in the movie impressed. Everyone in the movie looked like having an attitude problem and Anil Kapoor was difficult to understand than a Mission Impossible plot. Read review of Tashan

2. Love story 2050: Love Story 2050 released as a contender to Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na on July 4, 2008. While Jaane Tu skyrocketed, Love Story 2050 went down to pits. Perhaps no movie in Bollywood has such a hackneyed and foolish second half as Love Story 2050. Come to think of it, something was definitely wrong in her pretty head, when Priyanka Chopra said it was a great movie. We certainly hated her as a red haired moll. Her man…sorry Harman Baweja looked like a boy lost in the woods.

3. Drona: Another crap flop movie featuring Priyanka Chopra. Drona was touted as the next big superhero movie starring Abhishek Bachchan. Almost every movie critic thrashed the movie Drona left, right and center. With Abhishek Bachchan looking like a junior artiste, this superzero film made everyone rush out of the cinema. Read review of Drona

4. Kidnap: Sanjay Gadhvi has proved that Tashan’s flop status was not a fluke. The movie lost focus on the story and trained its lens only on Minissha cleavage. So much to the extent that the candy floss lover Imran Khan was also shown ogling at Minissha’s cleavage. What about the story? Forget it, the audience was held at ransom. Read Kidnap review.

5. Mission Istanbul: Mission Istanbul looked like a B-grade movie with Istanbul as a backdrop. Pathetic direction, lousy performances, irritating screenplay, nothing went right for Mission Istanbul. At no point could the audience relate to what was going on. Read review of Mission Istanbul.

6. Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic: Since the time Aditya Chopra decided to put bikinis and scantily clad women as the centrifugal force in his films, his movies have only succeeded at the groin level. Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic will go down as one of the worst children’s movie. In fact, it is an insult to call it a children’s movie when we have the very developed in the right places Amisha Patel strutting her stuff in a yellow bikini and enjoying some lazy lamhe on the side. And have you seen a sardarni angel? That’s Rani for you. Read review of Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic

7. God Tussi Great Ho: Another Priyanka Chopra flop, this time she shares the honor with Salman Khan. The movie a very poor rip off of “Bruce Almighty”(even though the maker lied by telling it wasn’t) certainly left a bad taste in the mouth. Total bore and a waste of time, everything in it was second hand as Priyanka Chopra’s old nose ring.

8. Chamku: Priyanka Chopra’s one more meaningless contribution to the box office. I am sure the lady will blush while reading this, she certainly has to differentiate between a good script and bad script. At least, she can choose a director with a better track record if she cannot judge a script. Anyway Chamku had Bobby Deol playing the wrong character 252nd time. Of course, what do you expect the audience to do?

9. Money Hai toh Honey Hai: Money Hai toh Honey Hai was rubbished by critics and audiences alike. It looked like the director Ganesh Acharya tried making something to fill in between the song videos.

10. Krazzy4: The producer Rakesh Roshan became poorer by 4 crores before the movie could even release, thanks to the music copyright infringement case filed by Ram Shankar. Krazzy 4 had three item numbers by Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Rakhi Sawant which were the only saving grace in the film. Among the above list of top 10 flops in Bollywood 2008, this is the only one which was marginally passable to watch.

Famous Movies Featuring Chocolate

Chocolate is an important force in the world, and in many of our lives. While we might not think about it on a day to day basis, we’d definitely miss it if there was no more chocolate to be found. In addition, chocolate has been important in several movies and books over the years.

The three most popular of these films are probably the two adaptations of Roald Dahl’s 1964 book called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the film adaptation of Joanne Harris’s 1999 book Chocolat. Here’s some information about all three of these famous movies that center around chocolate.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

There were two adaptations of this book – one in 1971 and another in 2005. The 1971 adaptation is called Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, due to the then-association of the name Charlie with Communist Vietnamese soldiers. The movie starred Gene Wilder and was directed by Mel Stuart. It received an Academy Award nomination for the score.

Recently, another adaptation was made, directed by Tim Burton. This film has the same name as the book, and stars Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. This box office success got a good reaction from the critics, as well as a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design at the seventy-eighth Academy Awards. The film was released in the summer of 2005, and has significant plot differences from the earlier adaptation. Neither exactly match the plot of the book.

In this movie Willy Wonka was choosing a new owner for the factory. He did this through selling candy bars with golden tickets inside. One of the people who received the tickets was Charlie, a boy from a poor family. Once arriving at the factory the winners are dazzled by wondrous candy creations such as the chocolate river. A girl eventually winds up trying to drink from the river and accidentally falls in to her parents horror. By the end of the movie Charlie who has a deep appreciation for people and kindness is the winner.

Chocolat

Chocolat was first written in 1999, then adapted for film in 2000. This successful film pulled in more than $150,000,000 around the world, and received Golden Globe and Academy Award Nominations for Best Original Score, Best Actress and Best Picture. The film tells the story of a young mother who comes to a fictional French village with her young daughter and opens a small chocolate shop.

The chocolate she produces changes the lives of the people she lives around. There’s a great deal of strife between the woman and the village, starting with the fact that she opens her shop during Lent. However, her confections eventually encourage secret love, help a married couple, and help a woman leave her abusive husband.

We all love chocolate, and box office figures show that we also love movies about chocolate. If you’re feeling that craving, why not check out a chocolate-based film and enjoy it with a brownie, truffle, or scoop of chocolate ice cream?

Chris loves to write about all kinds of food particularly chocolates. For more information on the best tasting chocolates visit www.ultimatechocolateshoppe.com

Ten Most Famous Hollywood Movies

‘Hollywood movies’ have become famous the world over. Hollywood has produced some fine movies, which have been immortalized in the minds of moviegoers forever. The industry has experimented successfully with every genre of filmmaking. Be it romance, horror, comedy or patriotic movies, every subject has been touched upon. Amongst the large number of films made every year, there are some that stand out and can be counted among the most famous of Hollywood movies ever made.

One of the earliest such movies was The Predators, which was a work of science and fiction together. It is a movie where foreign technology can be seen at its best. Another such old movie is The Fortress made in 1986 where Sean Garlick and Rachel Ward are seen performing various stunts, playing a queer relationship. The cast has great synchronization among themselves.

Peter Jackson developed an ambitious trilogy from a literary masterpiece called Lord of the Rings originally written by J.R.R.Tolkien. This movie belongs to the genre of fantasy where the motive is to present the imagination in pure form rather than recreate it. ‘Speed’ is another such movie starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, which was an original masterpiece. The scenes of the movie leave us mesmerized with their dynamic flow with a nail biting finish.

While mentioning Hollywood movies, if we do not mention Tom Cruise and Mission Impossible then it would be like enjoying a cake without having the icing. The movie was a celebrated directorial piece from Brian de Palma. This was an original trendsetter of mind-blowing action with superb camera tricks.

In the Troy there is a slow moving action with terrific camera work and martial art skills of Keanu Reeves who has Anne Moss as his heroine. The heart-throbbing actor Brad Pitt has created history with his superb acting. The film is highly significant for its drama and action. Mortal Kombat 2, where the fights are well choreographed, is the choice for lovers of acrobatic and martial art skills. Action was conveyed through close combat and good angles. Female power is no less than that of men in showing stunts. An obvious example for this can be Tom Raider enacted by Angelina Jolie, not to forget Charlies Angels.

If we need to see mystic powers at play, we can opt for The Mummy and Mummy Returns. It is a classical movie describing the theme of forbidden love. The people having love for wrestlers will like the movie named The Scorpio King. It creates a lasting effect on the mind with its romantic and aggressive theme.

There are many other very popular movies like Star Wars with its realistic looking science fiction story and Pirates of Caribbean bringing us near sea voyages and ruthlessness.

Michael J. Fox too made a movie named Independence Day with its hard-hitting dialogues. We have many movies belonging to the same pattern of action enacted by Arnold Schwarzeneggar and Bruce Willis.

Holiday Movies That are Fun All Year Round!

Who says that it actually has to be a holiday for you to enjoy watching a holiday movie? Some people get quite a lot of enjoyment out of watching Valentine’s Day movies in September and Christmas movies in June. Here are a few that can be enjoyed no matter what time of year it is!

Home for the Holidays: This movie stars Holly Hunter as a single mother who travels back to her childhood home to spend Thanksgiving weekend with her family. Robert Downey Jr. plays her brother and the rest of the supporting cast of characters is charming and wonderful as they play their dysfunctional family roles perfectly! What makes this family so charming is that their dysfunction comes from being a traditional family. Dad plays the organ and turns the hose on kids who argue while Mom nitpicks and the sister tries to be the perfect homemaker. You will not stop laughing until the credits roll!

Love Actually: The great thing about this holiday movie is that it is not technically a holiday movie. Sure the story takes place in the month before and after Christmas and so many of the activities that the characters engage in are Christmas related. Really though, the story is about personal relationships and how intertwined we all can be. This is a movie that you will want to put on repeat so that you can figure out just how all of the characters are connected!

Planes Trains and Automobiles: Steve Martin plays a man whose only wish is to get home and spend the Thanksgiving Day with his family in this movie. Along the way he finds himself stuck with the loud and slightly obnoxious John Candy. This hysterical movie can be enjoyed no matter what time of year it is.

Edward Scissorhands: This movie takes place around Halloween, but it doesn’t have to be October thirty first to enjoy one of Johnny Depp’s first movie roles. Who doesn’t have a soft spot in their heart for the young man with scissors for hands who simply wanted to find a way to hold the girl he loved? This is also one of Tim Burton’s first popular movies and a great introduction to his oddball style!

When Harry Met Sally: This movie’s quintessential scene takes place on New Year’s Eve but you don’t have to wait until the ball starts dropping in Times Square to enjoy watching the chemistry between Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal. This movie about how people come together is a classic and is what helped make Meg Ryan a star.

One of the best things about the movie watching experience is that, if the movie is good, a movie can transport you to another time and another place. This is why it is so popular to watch summer movies in the winter and winter movies in the summer—the thrill of escaping your current surroundings for something better.

The Home Of Movies – Universal Studios

Universal studio was founded by Carl Laemmle, a German Jewish and is the second oldest studio in Hollywood. He realized the potential of the moving pictures and the success of Universal Studio has proved him right.

Hollywood has been credited with many successful and memorable movies over the years. The movie industry began in the early 1900s and as of now, there are many famous studios involved in the production of movies and their brand names and logos have become familiar among people.

Of these studios, Universal studio is credited with some of the biggest hits that Hollywood has seen. It goes to the credit of Universal studio that they have been successfully able to tide over the hard times that the movie industry had to face from time to time. It started with the switch from the era of silent movies to the talkies and Universal Studio was able to manage the transition successfully.

The next issue that faced the movie industry was the breaking away of movie stars from the production houses in an effort to be more independent. This happened in the 1950s and Universal Studio again managed to pull up act together by channeling its energy into making of TV shows and movies made especially for television.

In the initial years, Hollywood was churning out low budget westerns and serials. Over time, the standards of scripts and production also improved. In the 1930s, Universal Studio released All Quiet on the Western Front, a movie based on World War I. It went on to win the Academy Award for the Best picture.

Subsequently, Universal Studios became synonymous with horror movies after they produced successful movies like Frankenstein and The Mummy and Dracula. Some of their lighthearted movies have featured memorable performances from Mae West, Deanna Durbin and WC Fields. In the 1950s, many stars including the heartthrob Cary Grant were on contract with Universal Studio. Other stars like Doris Day and Rock Hudson helped create magic with the romantic comedy Pillow Talk whereas James Stewart helped create another sensation by talking to a giant rabbit in the movie Harvey.

Universal Studio has taken risks to produce movies that had difficult subjects. These movies like the depiction of Nazi Germany through the holocaust movie The Schindlers List was not supposed to appeal to a larger audience. But its success took everyone by surprise. Similarly, Twelve Monkeys, a movie dealing with the subject of mental illness also received critical acclaim. And who can forget the blockbusters like the Jurassic Park and ET. It is surprising to note that Universal Studio has had hits to its credit in every decade.

How To Look Good in Movies

Probably the number of people who have not at one time or another wondered in a sneaking sort of way if they wouldn’t look pretty well on the screen is limited to the aborigines of Africa. Needless to say, both beauty and character are the characteristics in demand in the films, as everywhere else. The curious fact is that faces which in real life possess great beauty or deep character, frequently fail to carry this across to the camera.

The chief reason for this lies in the fact that the: camera does not accept color values, and at the same time accentuates many defects which are ordinarily imperceptible to the eye. For example, a wonderful type of Italian beauty appeared at our studio while we were casting “Mama’s Affair” for Constance Talmadge. She had never before appeared in motion pictures, and our casting director was quick to seize the opportunity to make a test of her face.

When the picture was shown, her extraordinarily fine coloring of course went for nothing, and her beauty was entirely marred by the inexplicable appearance of a fine down over her upper lip and a large mole on her left temple. Both the mole and the down had been entirely unnoticed in daylight, but under the fierce mercury lights of the studio and the enlarging lenses they made her face grotesque.

At another time we attempted to make a leading man of a famous war hero. This boy had been a college athlete and had subsequently distinguished himself as a bayonet fighter on four battlefields. When his test films were projected, to the astonishment of everyone he appeared as an anaemic, effeminate stripling, whose every gesture aroused the ridicule of the audience.

The skin of the face must be entirely smooth and unbroken. The slightest eruption or blemish is visible on the screen, especially in this day when “close- ups” are the vogue. The teeth must be perfect. Considerations which do not matter in the slightest degree in facial beauty on the screen are those of coloring and of fineness of the features. The pinker a woman’s cheeks may be, the hollower they appear to the camera, for red photographs as black, and a face which is beautiful, but coarse in its outline, frequently photographs quite as well as the beautiful face which is exquisite in every detail.

A screen star should be equally beautiful in every expression and from every angle. This is not so true of the stage star, for when she is moving about, speaking and gesticulating, the question of her beauty becomes comparatively unimportant. On the screen, however, important scenes are always taken in “close- ups” wherein the star, whether portraying rage or pain, love or hate, must be equally charming, at the risk of making a permanently bad impression upon her audience.

Many people who are beautiful when seen in “full face” are most unattractive in profile. In fact, the matter narrows down still further, for quite often those who have a lovely profile are, for some inexplicable reason, gross and unattractive when the face is turned to show three-quarters.

A number of the present movie stars have risen to the top despite such impediments by stipulating in all their contracts that they be never shown in close-up in the pose in which they are unattractive. One star in particular never shows the left side of her face for this reason. This, however, is obviously a great handicap.

The male types which are most in demand are not those whose appeal is through physical beauty. Audiences are sick of large-eyed, romantic heroes, and are demanding a little manly force and character in their heroes.

To film well, a man’s head should be large, rugged, with the features cut in masses, like a Rodin bust. Whether he is attempting to play “juveniles,” “leads” or “heavies” his face must possess the cardinal requi- sites of character. Deep-set eyes, a strong chin, a jutting forehead, a prominent nose, are all desirable. Again, the high cheekbones and long face appear desirable characteristics. William S. Hart’s success depends largely on these two simple characteristics of facial structure.

Neither in men nor in women is the hair an essential for screen beauty. Wigs and trick arrangements of the hair are a function of the make-up department, and a man or woman with no hair at all could still be made to appear most attractive to the unsophisticated camera.

In analyzing your own face, then, ask yourself the following questions:

Are my eyes large?

Is my skin fine and well kept ?

Is my mouth small and are my teeth good ?

Is my nose straight?

Has my face character, something which makes it not only beautiful, but which portrays the underlying personality ?

If you can answer these questions in the affirmative you may have a career before you in the motion pictures. If you cannot answer any of them but the last in the affirmative, you may still be successful as a movie actor, for “types” whether of gunmen or millionaires, villains or saints are much in demand.

In any case, if you are to essay a career in the movies, remember that your natural characteristics are all that count. Tricks of rolling the eyes or puckering the lips or setting the jaw are buncombe and are instantly discovered by the camera. Be natural. Keep healthy and happy. That, in the movies, as in real life, is the way to charm and beauty.
